What is AIRSOUND™?

AIRSOUND™ is a new way of listening to stereo sound. By using loudspeakers in a novel way, AIRSOUND™ converts conventional 'stereo' into true spatial sound that fills the room.

How Does it Work?

Stereo sound is processed with airSOUND™ amplifiers and is converted into SPATIAL (Left and Right) and MAIN audio signals. When these are reproduced through an airSOUND™ design loudspeaker unit, they produce realistic spatial images that are recognisable throughout the room; not just in a 'sweet spot' as with conventional stereo.

What is the On/Off Axis Performance?

In an airSOUND™ speaker cabinet the MAIN signal comes from the principal frontal loudspeaker, designed to diffuse the audio, so that it mixes 'in the air' with the spatial information from the SPATIAL speakers positioned on either side. There is no significant axis effect, and the stereo sound is evenly spread. This is unlike dual loudspeaker systems, where any movement off-axis by the listener destroys the spatial perception.

What is the Frequency Response Across the Field?

Response varies with the environment, but unlike dual loudspeaker systems, where frequency cancellations occur because of the dual (left and right) signal sources, the HF response from AIRSOUND™ remains constant.

What is the Spread or Nature of the Field?

With well recorded sound, the AIRSOUND™ speaker will reproduce a realistic stereo soundstage in front of the AIRSOUND™ loudspeaker throughout the room.

How Does airSOUND™ Compare With Two-Speaker Stereo?

A good recording will sound spatial and well defined from a two-speaker set-up if the listener is positioned precisely at the 'sweet-spot', and if the loudspeakers are correctly placed in a good acoustic environment. The same recording listened to via AIRSOUND™ will sound spacious and well defined from anywhere in the room.

Do You Hear Everything 'In Place' With airSOUND™?

Yes, airSOUND™ does provide directional clues, but it gives even better 'depth and height' experience than a two-speaker system, because there is no need to listen precisely at the 'sweet spot'.

Is the Sound Quality as Good as with Conventional Stereo?

Because the airSOUND™ image is generated from a single point, there is no distortion through cancellation of frequencies; the audio sounds cleaner and brighter, with far greater intelligibility, than with conventional stereo.

What Happens if the Recording is Mono?

Then you will hear mono. airSOUND™ is not an enhancer, it does not add anything to the sound. airSOUND™ simply reproduces recorded sound by an alternative method.
